Realities cannot be defined without basic reality. Without basic reality any fraud including fascism and Nazism can be called constitutional democracy.

Basic reality is the reality upon which other realities depend. Any falseness in that area becomes quite visibly contradictory; so basic reality is easily determined to be truth.

Science and philosophy are the areas that produce basic realities. The Primary difference is sources of evidence—measurements in science and social examples in philosophy.

But the social order runs on superficial reality, because basic reality is abstract and most persons do not understand the abstractions. Journalism and politics produce superficial realities for that reason.

The problem is that superficial realities can have different interpretation. Journalists tend to produce false equivalencies between right and wrong to avoid partisanship, because their superficial realities do not clarify the differences.

The information of journalism as time, date and place only needs accuracy and is not dependent upon basic realties. But journalism goes far beyond such information and includes large amounts of opinion. Even the information is webbed into abstract meaning that does not get straightened out in the absence of basic reality.

There is not a quick fix for the problem. The education system and social standards would need to be greatly improved. During the 1950s and 60s, society was science educated. It isn't now days. Of course the science has gotten a lot more complex; but the basics are still the same. What changed is deterioration of education.

The education problem has long been recognized, as the primary fix was assumed to be in testing. The opposite is the truth. Testing distracts from education. Some very limited testing is needed, but not as the fix for deteriorated education.

What changed in education is the same as what changed everywhere. Incompetent power mongers took over the social structures and converted them into power structures for their personal gain at everyone else's expense. The result was a slide into subjectivity and motives with an increasing contempt for truth and knowledge. That is, along with the subversion of social structures and their products.

An example is a book for teacher's colleges that describes "aerobic fermentation" and "anaerobic fermentation." There is no such thing as aerobic fermentation (in a general sense). What they were doing is crossing out the word glycolysis (breakdown of glucose) and putting fermentation in its place. Glycolysis branches into respiration and fermentation, which was replaced with aerobic and anaerobic fermentation. Fermentation is defined in science as a final electron acceptor other than oxygen, which means not aerobic.

That material is produced by higher level power mongers who impose their incompetence and corruption onto the education system. The teachers don't have a chance of getting it corrected. It's not the least reason why few Americans go into science.

But that situation was the 80s and 90s problem. The transformation since then is shown by the fascism transforming into Nazism as fake democracy, which is an attack upon rationality, ordered existence, properly produced laws, openness and accountability. Whim is the substitute for all elements of ordered existence in the fascism.

Basic reality would straighten out the mess; but it is assumed to be nonsense contrived by losers to make themselves winners in an invalid manner. Reagan said, if you need to explain, you are already a loser. He assumed the purpose in life is to be a winner and rationality is for fools. Rationality requires explanation of claims.
