Politics is a process of designing social forces. Religion is a belief system, generally based upon supernatural influences. Mixing them is an attempt to exploit supernatural influences for the imposition of social forces.

The pretense in itself is a galling attempt to put humans in line with the supernatural in their impositions upon society. Attempting to do that says the frauds do not have a justifiable position based upon human responsibilities.

If God created humans for anything, it was to create human responsibilities, not to transpose his responsibilities onto humans.

Yet conservatives promote nothing but values devoid of and in conflict with objective realities in line with 5,000 years of evolved social standards and procedures oriented around governmental processes. They are attempting to impose their religious assumptions onto everyone by exploiting and misusing the authority of government

In doing that, they don't just create an official religion, they wipe out all other concepts of religion. In fact, what they don't realize is that they also wipe out any valid concept of religion within their imposed religious values, because no religion is designed to be a governmental process.

But perhaps more relevant than what corrupters misrepresent and defile in politics is what they don't do. They acquire governmental authority while doing nothing required of governmental authority. It's the equivalent of eliminating government and replacing it with warped values devoid of valid human purposes.

Plain and simply, corrupters try to exploit religion, which is much easier than exploiting described social structures, to generate a force of exploitation which puts them in control of our lives.

Corruption is based on the purpose of dominating other persons to make incompetent corrupters winners, where rationality exposes them as the corrupters that they are. They use force to overwhelm rationality, while religion is used as a highly exploitable force due to its subjectivity without developed objective realities getting in the way.
