March 23, 2025 Government needs to exist for a purpose, which is why it evolved to meet that purpose. The purpose is to assist and facilitate human activities, not to shape human activities. Assisting has two major functions. One is to solve large-scale problems such as producing highways and airways. The other is to prevent destructive activities related to, or similar to, criminality. Within those limitations, there is no possibility of government properly shaping human activity. The U.S. Constitution and Bill Of Rights make that fact clear in emphasizing the requirements for freedom. Freedom means people choose their own lives rather than have a few corrupters design their lives. There is no right way for a few persons to determine how everyone else lives their lives. That includes imposition of values. When morality is imposed, it must be acceptable to nearly all of society as determined by extensive interactions of a democratic nature. Otherwise it gets defied, as the prohibition of alcohol did. Without suitable democracy, it means there is a small group of persons who determine what values are for everyone else. There is no justification in a small group of persons determining what values should be for other persons. That means, if problems occur due to human conflicts, government must figure out how to resolve the conflicts; but it doesn't mean imposing anything onto anyone. Resolving conflicts requires preventative measures, not impositions or changing values. Preventing can be defined differently than imposing. In other words, people have a right to any values and life-styles, as long as they do not create problems for other persons. That is how the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights were designed. When conflicts need to be resolved, changing values and life-styles is not supposed to be part of the processes. Otherwise, what is the basis for determining values and life-styles? Religion? Eugenics? Any time religion or eugenics is imposed onto a society a destruction of everything is the result as indicated by Nazism and the Inquisitions. The pretense when imposing values and lifestyles is that some problem is being solved by erasing the values and lifestyles of some persons—always vulnerable minorities. Erasing is imposing. Problem-solving is not a process of erasing something, even if it is restricting something. It's a process limited to removing conflicts. Conflicts are removed with simple procedures, not life-changing procedures with social disruptive impositions that go from bad to worse in creating social conflicts. Why should a few persons determine what values and life-styles are for everyone else? Do they know something the rest of us don't know? Values and life-styles are not based on knowledge. That means imposing them is corruption—nothing resembling what the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights describe. Even majorities cannot justifiably impose values and life-styles onto society for several reasons. One is that freedom is destroyed by impositions regardless of number ratios. Secondly, majorities are influenced by numerous factors which include temporary influences which change with circumstances and knowledge and imposed influences which are not a choice. There is also misrepresented majorities, where people thought they were voting for one thing and ended up with something else. Proper methodologies are not determined by majorities but by related, objective realities. That's what representative government means. It means capable persons are chosen and they align upon objective realities rather than finding some illusive values or life-styles to impose. Solving problems is alignment upon objective realities. Preventing problems from being solved is imposition of values. Failures and imperfections require corrections as objective realities. To obliterate instead of correct is to impose values by destroying purposes. The purposes of government need to be determined democratically rather than through impositions. Impositions are conflicts with objective realities. Alignment upon objective reality is rationality, which requires explanation of claims as openness and accountability with evidence and criticism.
