Liberalism is viewed by conservatives as a lead weight over their heads. Taking off the weight is what they mean by freedom. They are hung up on freedom in the land of the free, because they cannot get out from under the lead weight of liberalism.

The recent meaning of both liberal and conservative took form during the fifties and sixties, as journalistic media became available to the general public and related issues were developed. While conservatives were seeing William Buckley on television and Barry Goldwater calling for bombing Hanoi, liberals were discussing what social justice meant and the requirements for achieving it. The net result for liberalism was "equal opportunity" being required for social justice.

A closely related concept that took form was progressiveness, which now means development of products and processes for solving human problems.

Combining the equal opportunities and solving human problems created liberalism as the dread of conservatives. Liberalism was the prevailing force in government when Reagan got elected in 1980. Believe it or not, Reagan lightly campaigned as a liberal in 1980. He claimed he did more for education in California than anyone and that is what he was going to do when elected. Of course, when he got elected, conservatives came out of the woodwork and claimed to be producing "a new normal."

Reagan was promoting a rudimentary philosophy as being unbound by the demands of liberals and the normal that they supposedly created. Reaganites didn't know that normal will always be determined by the laws of the universe that define life and solutions to problems. So they assumed they could change what normal is. When Reagan got elected the second time, he assumed the public had seen the light and he called it "morning in America." That's the terminology of religion and morality.

The Reaganites assumed there is a superior state of existence compared to the liberalism that had been prevailing. It meant being winners, which required getting rid of the demands of liberalism. Reagan said, if you need to explain, you are already a loser. He assumed being a winner is the purpose in life and rationality is for fools. Rationality requires explanation of claims.

The first thing to notice about that quasi philosophy of Reagan's is that the purpose focusses on self being a winner rather than producing results for "the good of all." It's inward turning selfishness rather than outward turning solutions to problems.

The essence of the conservative cause it to make the persons winners, which requires an opposition to solving problems for the good of all. The conflict between liberal and conservative is based on the purpose being selfishness or good of all.

Humans do not really have a choice about it, because the laws of the universe define solutions to human problems. That means the promotion of selfishness creates a three second win; and then the laws of the universe determine the result.

When the laws of the universe catch up to conservatives after their three second win, they assume liberalism is being imposed upon them, because liberalism has the purpose of aligning upon the laws of the universe to solve problems. So conservatives fight a war against liberalism to make their three second win long lasting but always fail to get there.
