Power mongers police themselves. That assures they are always wrong. But being wrong would be irrelevant if they were ignored. There is no danger of them being ignored, because power is supposedly virtue, while powerlessness is corruption, which is bigotry.

The result is a fog of social realities, as the worship of power translates into the need of power mongers to be wrong. You say you can't imagine why power mongers would need to be wrong. It's because rationality exposes them as the corrupters that they are. Replacing rationality with domination is what power mongering consists of.

Fake science and technology are not evaluated; they are exploited for power. Blocking all criticism and shoving out real scientists who try to correct errors is not an evaluation process; it's a power mongering process. "On par with coal" and "carbon free" are not evaluation processes; they are power mongering processes. No one could believe that pouring more than a hundred truckloads of concrete under a windmill and smelting the steel is carbon free. So why go along with it? To monger power.

More than a century ago, real scientists measured the absorption of radiation by carbon dioxide under atmospheric conditions and found that there is so little radiation available of the type carbon dioxide absorbs that it all gets absorbed by the time it travels a short distance, so more carbon dioxide cannot absorb more radiation, which they called saturation. Power mongers in physics ignored them and dominated the subject eventually convincing a gullible public that their fake science was real.

How could anyone believe that going to Mars would be relevant, even if it were impossible? It's not possible, because there is not enough energy in hydrogen and oxygen to be doing anything significant in space. And there is no method of navigating in space outside Earth's orbit. What are reference points in space? Not the Earth, moon or sun, because they are in constant motion and single points are not references for position. You say, locate several star constellations. They don't look the same in space due to a lot more stars being visible and cluttering the imagery. Not to mention the fact that evaluating that much complexity would require a few more warehouses of servers for the "artificial intelligence" which doesn't yet exist.

That means the power mongers need a lot of fraud to glamorize their incompetent corruption. That amount fraud is not totally inconspicuous; so why buy into it? To dominate to prevail in exploiting the corruptions of power.
