Openness connects humans to the universe that defines life and the requirements for sustaining life.

The universe is large. It's laws are complex. Humans have limited ability to account for the results of the laws of the universe. To not get properly aligned upon them results in more problems in human life.

Accountability is the requirement for openness. Openness needs to be required, because social interactions determine how well human life aligns upon the determining influences over life that the universe creates.

Requirements in human social existence must be taken up by the government. Otherwise, humans do not have the authority required to impose themselves upon each other. The concept of government was created for that reason—because individuals cannot impose themselves upon each other, while formal and accountable methods must exist for imposing necessary requirements for sustaining life, when not doing so is detrimental to life.

The reason why these basic principles matter is showing up in the controversies related to sanctioning communication on social media. Social media has become a source of power which is more critical of a tool in promoting harm than in promoting constructivity. The reason why is because constructivity requires a lot of complexity which does not fit into social media; but destructivity is ultra-simplistic which totally depends upon rudimentary communication and aggregation of purposes.

Businesses cannot properly take up that responsibility, as has been overwhelmingly demonstrated over recent decades. There is no chance of producing the needed openness and accountability in business practices. And dumping that responsibility onto businesses is unrealistic and inordinately complex and expensive. Businesses are not in the position of taking up such social responsibilities. It means social media created a process which promotes corruption rather than rationality.
