What conservatives do doesn't make sense in normal terms. What they are doing is attempting to create a medium. They are locked onto a project which is totally defined in their view. The project is to extend a medium into every nook and cranny of existence like syrup flowing over and through everything.

To grasp what they are doing, it's necessary to break down the elements of the process. Normal existence is a relationship to the universe as objective reality. The universe defines the requirements of life. Humans are servants of the universe. Life is a compatible relationship to the universe.

To conservatives, that state doesn't exist and any evidence of rationality applied to objective reality is viewed as foolish and contra constructive. Objectivity is nonsense to conservatives, because they are disconnected from objective reality by their incompetence and ignorance. They are unaware of the purpose and significance of objective existence.

Without objectivity, conservatives exist in a totally subjective state. Subjectivity is separate from, if not in conflict with, the objective universe. That state of existence for a large group of persons creates a medium, like syrup on pancakes.

The effort of conservatives is directed toward promoting that medium. It looks bizarre to rational persons who can't help but notice the conflicts with objective reality.

To understand conservatives, it is necessary to look at that purpose—how they are trying to extend a medium to cover existence with a syrup consisting of their unique, subjective influence and replacing all else with it.

Conservatives built a lot of buildings after they took over the world in 1981, because they don't like to use the same buildings that liberals have been using. If conservatives can't identify with something, it isn't theirs and it isn't part of their medium; so they can't use it to extend their medium. To extend their medium, they need to identify with everything and shove out all else.

What the end result looks like is partying at someone else's expense. The ultimate goal is to spend their existence in a cafeteria gossiping to reshape the world around their values.

The conservative medium needs to be homogeneous. The slightest indication of something else (particularly liberalism) contaminates their medium. Subjectivity is part of the reason. It means there are values ingrained in all that conservatives do.

Another reason for the intolerance of differences is functionality. All differences cause realities to interact, while truth evolves from all interactions of realities. Truth exposes the fraud, incompetence and self-destructive nature of the conservative purpose and activity.

Where rational persons look for constructivity which requires rationality, conservatives are promoting a medium consisting of a group of persons who aggregate to promote their common values. Objective reality, rationality and constructivity are obliterated in the process.

It's not possible to understand that there is a purpose to obliterating objective reality, constructivity and rationality until the purpose is identified in spreading a medium of like-minded persons and their values across all of existence and eliminating all that gets in their way—not the least reason why Trump expects the government to exist for conservatives or not at all.
