Souls evolve in animal bodies over hundreds of millions of years.

Soul substance is different from free awareness substance, consisting of forgotten memories which have traces of spirit substance in them. Forgotten memories attach to cells, which separates soul substance from free awareness substance. Free awareness substance moves around with awareness. Over time, soul substance accumulates and differentiates from free awareness substance.

Memories begin as perception. Perception is free awareness spirit substance contacting external realities and making a copy in a template manner. The copies drift out of awareness and become memories. At first, the memories attach to brain cells. As they drift farther out of awareness, they become soul substance. Each time the person enters a new animal body, the soul substance attaches to all of the cells in the body, while the brain cells acquire new memories.

As their souls evolve, spiritual beings acquire their values. Being preyed upon and in danger, they assume the right to live freely is self-evident and inalienable.

By the time human life evolves, values have been acquired and rudimentary awareness exists. Entering human life is like finishing school. A life-time or a few under human conditions shows how complex and abstract realities interact.
