A few decades ago science was the reference for social standards. Science was the core subject at universities around which all else turned. Since then, a totally different world has emerged; but it is not a new world; it is a reversion to a primitive condition best described as gnosticism.

Gnosticism is fake knowledge which comes out of nowhere. Irrational and incompetent power mongers assume that superior persons acquire wisdom from no identifiable source, and conversely that inferior persons are stupid. Why else would some persons be superior and others inferior? The answer is that corruption creates the false superiority based upon gnostic assumptions.

The basis of science is rationality. Rationality is taking observations to a level which explains relationships. Primitives could see things moving in the sky, but they didn’t know how they were moving. A proper set of relationships showed how the objects move. Getting relationships proper is the essence of science.

Reason is a process of relating one thing to another. Applying reason is rationality. Science is the most exact process of applying reason to the most demanding questions.

The product of rationality is a set of realities which have proper relationships between numerous points. When all relationships are correct a group of realities are unified by their relationships. The universe is one set of realities with consistent relationships between them.

More basic, and perhaps more important, than the knowledge which science produced was the standard of rationality which it required. A concept of rationality being a required part of life developed. This realism was a short blip in human history.

There is a force which replaces realism with contrivance. When the demands of rationality are greater than can be met, a substitute is often used to shortcut the process. An attempt to promote that substitute was called gnosticism.

Gnosticism was promoted as a counter belief system in parallel with increasing concepts of rationality. The two are opposites in conflict with each other. Gnosticism says knowledge springs from mystery rather than definable relationships between realities. In the simplest terms, mystery is used by frauds to evade accountability for their absurdities. Mystery was needed to counter rationality with an alternative source for superior knowledge.

A highly observable form of gnosticism now days is the pretense of superior knowledge in the ability to extract brilliance out of muddled subjects. Muddle is needed to escape accountability for fraud, while mysterious brilliance is needed to pretend that answers are derived out of the muddle.

Rationality was an attempt to replace muddle with objective reality visible to all. The attempt to replace rationality with muddle is the most prevalent manifestation of gnosticism which can never be overcome by frauds due to the fact that rationality condemns them, and frauds are generally incapable of producing adequate rationality.

Gnosticism leaned upon the credulity of gullible persons who could be convinced that there was a shortcut route to superiority. The convincing factor was power. If persons with superior power did not require rationality to gain their superiority, then there must be something other than rationality that produced their superiority. Developing the alternative route to superiority was the essence of historical gnosticism. It was an alternative route in that the lessons of life teach people to solve their problems through rationality. To defy the lessons of life was the essence of gnosticism, and it became more pronounced as people learned the characteristics of rationality.

Gradually, rationality prevailed over gnosticism, at least in outward appearances. But in fact, gnosticism went underground, as it is an inseparable part of all corruption. All corruption includes a fake worth based on the gnostic assumption of worth being derived from an unidentifiable source.

In modern society, the alternatives to rationality tend to be categorized as criminality. To fools, criminality looks like a bit of brilliance. As rationality recedes and gnosticism returns there is an increasing assumption that criminality needs to be redefined. But the trend is not a decriminalization of society; it is a shift in criminalization downward, so superior persons can do no wrong, and inferior persons can do no right.

Rationality condemns fakes and corrupters of all types. By showing cause and effect relationships destructivity is separated from constructivity. Corrupters must conceal and deny their destructivity, while rationality exposes what they try to conceal and deny.

Corrupters strip rationality from arguments through subjectivity, obfuscation, personal attacks and degradation. Degrading others supposedly makes them worth more. The proof is supposed to be in the pudding. Why would the criminals be prevailing unless they were worth more?

Cowardice is the basis of gnosticism. An attack upon vulnerable persons creates assumed superiority, while an invisible source of wisdom is claimed to be the source of the superiority. Those persons who disagree that criminality is the basis of wisdom are supposedly misfits who are the cause of the problems.
